Bridal Mehndi: Tips Part 1

I am often asked by brides how long they will be seated while we perform their mehndi, this depends on many factors such as: the design, complexity, space, environment, number of performers and the stillness and tranquility of the bride.

The mehndi technique requires a very precise and steady hand, however the result can be affected by the position and involuntary movements of the brides.
There are designs from 2 hours to 10 hours, however in an average mehndi it takes 3 to 4 hours for two artists at the same time.
So here are some suggestions to make this experience more comfortable and ideal for everyone.

Specify what designs, patterns or elements you want to be present in your design, this will help us to create a harmonious design that includes all the details you expect and write us the name of your future husband, we will make sure that it is not easy to find 😉

Make sure the space is large, lighted and quiet.

Avoid drinking too many liquids, caffeine, sugars. As well as being careful with alcohol consumption, being still for several hours requires a lot of patience and serenity and we will be very grateful if you give us this time to create art on your skin.

We know it sounds like a lot of fun to do your mehndi at a big party with all your guests around you Bollywood style… the reality is that in practice this is very frustrating for everyone, on one hand you want to be dancing, talking and mingling with everyone but you can’t really be part of the party because you will be seated during the whole event. And for your artists it will be very complicated to make precise strokes while everyone is coming and going, hugging you, wanting pictures with you and you will inevitably be constantly moving around. It will be much more fun for you to arrive at your mehndi party with your design ready so you can move, dance and enjoy the night without being careful not to ruin your henna.

If you want to share this moment with more people a good option is to do a mehndi session prior to the Mehndi Party event, at this time you can do an event only for close family members, where you will be more relaxed, with a more adequate lighting and in a more private place. At this point you can offer mehndi for a few more people, for example: your mom, sisters, mother-in-law, maid of honor, etc etc.

Remember that we suggest leaving the henna on the skin for at least 6 hours, (the longer you leave it on the skin the better pigmentation you will have) so find a schedule that guarantees you can leave the henna on your skin. An evening time is a good option since you can go to sleep with the henna on and bathe until the next day.

Keep your body as warm as possible, henna lowers your body temperature so we suggest doing the mehndi at room temperature, on a balcony or terrace where your skin is hydrated and warm.

Drinking hot beverages helps to raise your temperature. Henna loves heat so applying extra heat will always be a color boost for your pigmentation.

When removing the henna from your skin avoid using water, instead just try to remove it with your hand and the remains that are stuck to your skin can be removed with the help of a natural oil, it can be Mustard, Olive or Coconut.

We suggest to avoid using water during the next 24 hours after the design.

Obviously, as sad as it may be, avoid going into the pool or the sea, remember that henna is completely natural and its pigments are very fragile to pool chemicals.

  • The highest pigmentation of your design is reached after 36 to 48 hours for this reason the Bridal Mehndi is in most cases the first event of your entire wedding.
  • If you want professional photos of the process, we suggest that your photographers arrive half an hour before the estimated time of completion, if they arrive too early they will not see much progress and may become impatient.

-Create a playlist with music that motivates you and makes you very happy and calm, the bride’s mehndi is one of the most beautiful and expected details, enjoy it and make it unique.
